Wonderla was looking to upgrade one of its functional canteens into a fun, inviting restaurant. They had a simple brief - to include artwork and to make it an engaging space for their customers.
We were working on a tight budget with minimal structural changes.During the initial on-site survey, it was clear that the space needed a clear division of seating zones, new furniture, lighting, colour scheme and overall a new identity.
Since this was at Wonderla, Bangalore, we wanted to imbibe the local flavour into the space. So quirky Bangalore humour quickly became the most preferred concept, which could work well in engaging customers and those waiting on service.

Builder Floor plan
First, the layout was reworked to create a comfortable flow. The kitchen was already functional and this was to be a transformation of the customer zones only.

Division of spaces was also important in order to understand the placement of artwork.

Food court Service counters -
At the entrance of the restaurant is a food court with various stalls.
The food court was given a facelift with pendant lights, a clear differentiation between stalls, an updated style of signage and a tiled facade with acrylic text.
At the entrance of the restaurant are two areas designated for the food court - The banquette and the high table seating.
Banquette -A cement finish banquette bench with a tiled backrest makes for a cosy, comfortable area for small crowds or couples.
Blue metal and wood chairs and wooden tables update the seating.
Track lights are focused on artwork, pendant globe lights set the mood.
Artwork -
Bangalore and food-centric artwork are in coloured frames across the wall.High table seating -
High seating was a good and new addition to Wonderla restaurant.
The ceiling was coffered from previously, and we added in a fun stencilled artwork with chillies and lemons and brought in a local flavour in a memorable way.
Artwork -
A life-size plate calling out to people to come and chill - ‘Banni chill maadi’ was conceptualised as the selfie wall. The idea was to get people to engage while keeping it relevant to a restaurant.
The overall colour scheme is warm and muted with bursts of colours.
Pillars stand out in an ombre palette allowing the artwork to stand out while keeping the rest muted.
Outdated electrical fittings like the tube lights were replaced by track lights and pendant lights and all fans changed into a black colour.
Service counter -
The service and cash counter needed to be instantly recognised. We added a metal fabrication above on the counters with overhanging plants and signage updated to a clean, modern style.
A mix of yellow and grey metal and wood furniture were introduced. Black track lights and globe lights follow all across here as well.Artwork -
A rollercoaster going all around Bangalore and taking in the sights and humour of all Bangalore things follows along the service counter and to the adjacent walls.
At the end of this area is a neon signage 'Chilly Billy at Wonderla', also serves as another selfie point.
‘Finding Chikku’ is a puzzle wall where as the name indicates, park go-ers are trying to look for ‘ Chikku’, Wonderla’s cheeky monkey mascot. Chikku is hiding somewhere in the park which is visually hustling and bustling with laughter, screams, rides, cotton candies, and splash pools!
A clock necessary for ‘ride catchers’ and ‘show-go-ers is also integrated into the wall art.
Cash counter -
Tvs were rearranged in vertical formats and a 3D artwork ' Swag-atha' was introduced for a light-hearted welcome.
The cash counter was refurbished in simple textured and wood laminates and the food display and ice cream counter as required were included.
Outdoor seating -
Transformation of this area definitely elevated the overall experience at the restaurant.
A mix of bench-style seating and table seating was opted for a laidback picnic feel. Yellow cage metal pendants are seen from end to end in this zone and huge planters with greens make this an airy, inviting area.
Handwash -
Handwash areas were given a simple uplit with murals with messages on using water mindfully.
